“Lamberg, where we now cultivate 18 hectares of vineyards, is the heart of our winery”, says Christian Reiterer, who also has a strong emotional bond with this wonderful patch of earth: “I spent my childhood here - and there has always been winegrowing, as old records prove. The old cellar beneath our house was always full of wine and fruit”.

Lamberg is a south to southwest-facing site that stretches from 470 metres above sea level down to Wies at 370 metres, opening to the south, which allows cool winds to draw away; that's why there is no waterlogging here and hardly any fungal diseases. Broadly speaking - similar to the Pössnitzberg in southern Styria - opoka soils predominate; this soil, also known as marl, consists of fine, consolidated sedimentary rock.

Lamberg is the heart of our winery. In the upper, northern part of Lamberg the soils are heavy and deep - here stands a dedicated Sauvignon clone that provides the grapes for the single-vineyard Sauvignon Lamberg and the Sauvignon Blanc sparkling wine from Lamberg. In the lower part, the subsoil contains more sandstone, and here 90 percent of the vines are Blauer Wildbacher.

The longest vine rows at Lamberg measure 250 metres, so differences in vegetation are noticeable. In the uppermost area the grapes reach the highest ripeness, while right at the bottom near the forest, particularly fresh and fruity grapes with a cool aromatic profile grow. “We harvest the different areas separately,” explains Christian Reiterer, “which creates exciting combination possibilities in the cellar to find the optimal composition for each product.”
